MOTION NO.15

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Cathaoirleach’s Business

“That this committee asks for a report and costing for a gate to be put at Dunawley and Bawnogue as many Parents bringing there children to school and need access and also the general public, Also to ask why it was blocked of when wall was built?”

REPORT:

This motion relates to a proposal to provide pedestrian and cycle access from Alpine Heights and Ashwood to the Fonthill Road. The matter was the subject of a Part 8 Public Consultation process and was approved at the full Council meeting in February 2014. The proposal is a good one since it will allow for pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to local facilities and businesses. It will also address the priorities outlined in the Healthy Ireland document that is focused on “on prevention and keeping people healthier for longer”.

A funding application for this project has been made to Bonneagar Iompair Éireann/Transport Infrastructure Ireland. The Elected Members will be updated on the outcome of this application.

When the Fonthill Road was constructed there was some opposition at the time to having a connection from the adjoining estates to the new road and unfortunately the connections were not subsequently made.
