MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO.26

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

To ask the Chief Executive to look at the ”Tree of Hope” which has been very successful in many areas to be rolled out across SDCC parks and Green areas in a planned and coordinated manner and to also look at SDCC launching a mental health awareness campaign in conjunction with this?

REPLY:

The ‘Tree of Hope’ is a community led initiative that aims to provide a place of comfort where survivors can memorialise their loved ones lost to suicide or living with depression.  A tree is planted as a symbol of support and hope to all affected by a suicide or who are living with mental health issues.

In recent times, under this initiative, a number of trees have been planted at various locations across the South Dublin administrative area, and the Council has provided assistance and support to some of the ‘Tree of Hope’ plantings.

We will continue to support the initiative and also support the Health Service Executive and other public bodies in raising awareness of mental health issues.
