MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
“To ask the Chief Executive to reissue by print, 100 Clondalkin Fairtrade window stickers so the committee can develop Clondalkin as a Fairtrade town. All supporters will be named on our new website coming soon?”
REPLY:
Fairtrade incorporates social and environmental elements which are already supported by the Council including through our Sustainable Business Programme in partnership with South Dublin Chamber.
Given the inherent principle of local business/community involvement, a Fairtrade campaign in the County that involves a range of measures including bringing local businesses, community groups and other interested parties together should be led by a local group who can develop an appropriate promotional and awareness campaign. No such group has approached the Council for support in such a campaign recently but representatives from the Sustainable Business Programme and the Local Enterprise Office are available to meet with any such local organisers to discuss their proposed actions and to explore possible supports that can be offered to them including for promotional material, signage etc.
