Cllr Francis Timmons – Independent Voice

illegal dumping

MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

QUESTION NO. 17

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

“To ask the Chief Executive for a report into what fines have been issued in the Clondalkin area for illegal dumping for Jan to March 2016? and to comment on this issue.

REPLY:

All reports of illegal dumping are investigated by the Litter Warden Service, with the dumped material searched for evidence. Where evidence is found, appropriate enforcement action is taken in accordance with the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended. Unfortunately, it is proving difficult to obtain evidence in relation to the identity of offenders as personal information is generally removed or shredded.

Where there is an ongoing problem of illegal dumping, local residents and the public at large are encouraged to support the Council in taking the appropriate enforcement action by making reports to the Litter Warden for investigation and by providing evidence where possible.

It is not possible to provide a breakdown of the number of fines issued, pursuant to the Litter Pollution Act 1997 as amended, on an electoral area basis. However, I can advise that in the period January to March 2016, a total of eighty three (83) fines were issued in relation to illegal dumping/litter across the County.
