Cllr Francis Timmons – Independent Voice

Stickers to be made that say No to Racism motion

MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, March 16, 2016

MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Cathaoirleach’s Business

“That this committee support the Safety forums calls for stickers to be made that say No to Racism and that a meeting is called to look how the issue of anti racism can be progressed in the area.”

REPORT:

This is an initiative of the South West Clondalkin Community Safety Forum and to date has only been discussed at that Forum, although the Community Safety Forum worker has discussed the initiative with other CSF workers in the county. The Community Department of the Council has discussed the way forward with the South West Clondalkin Community Safety Forum worker and it is agreed that the proposal including the stickers will be considered at the next Clondalkin Local Policing Forum on 24th March 2016. If it is appropriate for the matter to be considered countywide then a report will be submitted to the next Joint Policing Committee meeting which will be held on 27th May 2016.

As previously reported, to mark European Week against Racism, the Social Inclusion Unit invited primary and secondary schools and members of the public to convey their own personal message against racism. The competition aims to combat racism and to celebrate cultural diversity of people living in Ireland today.

The winning slogan ‘Label Jars, Not People’ will be designed and printed in a sticker format and circulated to all schools and youth clubs in the county.
