MOTION NO.3

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Cathaoirleach’s Business

“In order to thank and encourage volunteers this committee calls on SDCC to promote the Volunteer discount card scheme run by South Dublin County Volunteer centre. This motion also calls for Councillors to promote the card to groups and organisations that could avail of the scheme and encourage businesses to sign up to the scheme. Also a letter from the committee is issued to local press/Chamber of Commerce to promote and encourage the card use.”

REPORT:

A South Dublin County Volunteer Discount Card was launched in December 2014 in the Council Chamber. The idea behind the card is that local businesses will offer various ‘rewards’ and incentives to people who volunteer in the community, such as discounts off the purchase of products and other reductions including 2 for the price of 1 offers. This is an opportunity for community groups to thank volunteers for their contributions, to promote your organisation as a good place to volunteer and to attract new volunteers to your organisation. It is also an opportunity to support and encourage use of local business. This is supported by South Dublin County Council and is a partnership between various community organisations. More details on the Volunteer Discount Card can be found at http://www.volunteersouthdublin.ie/index.php/volunteer-discount-card/about-the-discount-card-scheme

If this motion is passed a letter can be issued to the local newspapers and Chamber of Commerce to promote and encourage the card use.
